I am sorry to pass on the sad news that former camper Laverne Ekberg has passed.
A. Laverne (Gustafson) Ekberg, 93, of Brockton, formerly of West Bridgewater, died October, 26, 2015. She was the wife of the late Waldemar E. Wally Ekberg. Born January 17, 1922, in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Alfhild I. (Nelson) Gustafson. Laverne was a 1939 graduate of Brockton High School, where she was the Class Odist and attended New England Conservatory of Music. She was the former organist at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church both in Brockton. She was a well-known piano teacher and composer and was the accompanist for the Harmonettes and the American Legion Male Choirs. She was also a member of the Melody Trio, a longtime active member and choir member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and was secretary of the 1939 Class Reunion Committee. Her family, friends and music made up the fiber of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Enis H. Waterhouse and her husband Donald of N. Attleboro; two grandchildren, Benjamin Deeley of N.C., and Jonathan Deeley of Md.; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 900 Main St., Brockton, MA 02301. Visitation has been omitted.
